Elcomsoft Blackberry Backup Explorer helps its users extract data that are stored in BlackBerry backups.
The content of BlackBerry devices can be extracted using the utility so that it can afterwards be analyzed, exported under a different format or printed. The application will open BlackBerry backup files with the IPD and BBB extensions. Twelve different tables, each to be found in a different tab, are available for visualizing data in an organized manner. These twelve categories of information are: messages, contacts, SMS, AutoText, calendar, memos, calls, tasks, hotlist, PIN, MMS and saved. Extracted data can be exported under different formats, such as PDF, CHM, HTML, RTF, TXT, DOC, XML, TIFF and others. Encrypted backups are supported as long as the password is known. Also, PDF exports can be encrypted if necessary.
Keeping a backup of BlackBerry data is a means of protecting these data and of analyzing them in an easier manner using a desktop computer, with the help of a utility such as Elcomsoft Blackberry Backup Explorer, rather than the mobile device. Forensic investigations can make use of this utility for accessing and analyzing backups.
